K9 Top Coat Guide
K9 Top Coat FAQs
What's the Difference Between the Supra, Supra Plus and Full Cover Bodysuits?
Supra Bodysuit
The suit that started it all. Our Supra Bodysuit is made with a highly stretchable, breathable material that allows full range of motion even on the most active of dogs.
The innovative design of the bodysuit includes a built-in adjustable strap that can shorten the suit as needed for a customized fit.
The suit offers year-round comfort and protection against snow, burrs, ticks, UV rays, allergens, and much more. Please see our Benefits section.
With a convenient unisex design, the groin area is open so dogs can go to the bathroom at their convenience.
Supra Plus Bodysuit
All the same great benefits of our Supra Bodysuit PLUS antimicrobial and antibacterial properties in the material that may help prevent or alleviate skin allergy-related symptoms. This suit also has the same unisex design as our Supra Bodysuit, so no need to unzip for bathroom breaks.
Full Cover Bodysuit
All the same great benefits of our Supra Plus Bodysuit, with the addition of full belly/groin coverage. Females can wear the suit without unzipping for bathroom breaks, males will need the suit unzipped for urinating. The non-travel zipper will stay in place as needed.
Will the Supra Bodysuit Overheat My Dog?
It has been scientifically proven that our Supra Bodysuit will not cause your dog to overheat. The potential of overheating was a concern of ours from the beginning, so we had an independent scientific study conducted by the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine to ensure that our Supra Bodysuits were safe to wear during hot weather.
Note: A dog can overheat while wearing the suit (due to high temperatures, medical conditions, lack of water, etc), but it will not be because of wearing the Supra Bodysuit.
You can read more about that study here:
Can I Leave the Zipper Partially Open?
There's a protective piece of material along the stomach of the suit that provides a barrier between the suit and your dog's fur, skin, etc. If the zipper is stopped before the end of the suit, this piece of material can be tucked into the suit or cut off.
Can the Suit Replace the E-Collar (Cone of Shame)?
Yes, all of our year-round bodysuits (Supra, Supra Plus and Full Cover) can often replace the Elizabethan collar (e-collar) and have been recommended by thousands of veterinarians over the past 20+ years as an alternative to the dreaded ‘cone of shame’.
Not only do our bodysuits help protect wounds, rashes and surgical sites, they're also very comfortable to wear and helps reduce anxiety.
How Do I Wash the Suit?
When washing your dog’s suit, it is best to use a small amount of gentle laundry soap. You can wash the suit in the washing machine (gentle setting is recommended) or hand wash. The suit can be dried in the dryer on a low heat or you can lay it out to dry.
Will the Suit Cause Matting?
The likelihood of matting is extremely low. During the past 20+ years, a very low percentage (less than 1% overall) of dogs have experienced matting while wearing our suits.
We highly recommend that if you have a dog whose fur/hair could possibly mat, slowly build up the length of time that your dog wears the bodysuit and check periodically to see if there is any indication of mats.
After tens of thousands of dogs using our suits, we've concluded that when matting does happen, it's most often caused by static electricity. Spraying the inside of the suit with a static guard spray may reduce the likelihood of matting.
If matting does occur within 30 days of you receiving your order, please reach out to us and we'll issue you a full refund upon receipt of the suit.
Is The Suit Safe for Swimming?
Our Supra Bodysuit is made of lightweight and breathable Spandex material which allows any pup to wear them all year round and even in water!
The material we use is similar to high-quality swimwear for humans, so it's very smooth, breathable and stretchy. We’ve had many happy pups wear our Supra Bodysuit in the pool for both play time and swim therapy.
After spending time in and out of the water, the Supra Bodysuit may appear to get a little bigger and longer. If this is the case, simply pull the adjustable strap located at the shoulder blade to shorten the suit. When the suit dries, it will return to its original length again.
NOTE: Never leave your dog unattended when swimming in a K9 Top Coat.
I Put the Bodysuit On & My Pup Won't Move, is This Normal?
Because every dog is unique, their response to having a full bodysuit put on them can vary. A common response is that the dog 'freezes' or stays in place. This doesn't mean they're uncomfortable or feel restrained.
Once you shift their thoughts to something other than the suit (via treats, playtime, a ride in the car, a walk, etc.) they usually forget they have the suit on!
Keep in mind, emotionally-sensitive dogs may take more time to adjust and respond to the new sensation of the light full-body compression of our suit.
Do You Offer a Warranty on Your Suits?
We offer 1 Year Warranty on all our dog apparel. This covers manufacturing defects in workmanship (such as zipper malfunction, seams unraveling, etc). If you encounter a manufacturing defect during the lifetime of your suit, we will replace the suit at no cost to you.
Our manufacturer’s warranty does not cover tears, rips or snags to the fabric as these are not considered defects in materials or workmanship.
If any damage to the suit occurs due to normal or extended wear, accidents, etc, we can offer advice and tips to help extend the life of the suit.
I Got a Hole in My Suit, Can it be Fixed?
The Spandex material we use for our year-round bodysuits (Supra, Supra Plus and Full Cover) is of very high quality, but it's not indestructible. In order for us to fit pups in form-fitting bodysuits we need to use a highly stretchable and breathable material to allow the bodysuits to conform to a wide range of shapes and sizes. The more a fabric stretches and breathes, the less durable it is. Thus, we ride a fine line between comfort, safety and durability in all of our bodysuits.
If your suit does get a hole/tear, it will not grow any bigger in size over time. However, if you'd like to repair the hole/tear, we offer a Patch Kit that includes matching iron-on patches free of charge.
The Patch Kit comes with instructions on how to adhere the patches on the inside of the suit so they're not visible. Or you can cut the patch into a fun shape (like a heart or dog bone) and cover the hole from the outside of the suit.
Please contact us via email to request your free patch kit or include it in your order notes at checkout.
NOTE: The iron-on patches will not adhere to the special material we use to make our Supra Plus and Full Cover Bodysuits.
Is The Suit Safe to Wear for Consecutive Days?
NOTE: Always consult with your veterinarian when wearing our bodysuits for medical-related purposes and conditions.
While our bodysuits can be worn for consecutive days, we recommend taking the suit off at least once a day to carefully check on your dog’s condition and if needed, you can put the suit right back on.
